This will be New Zealand’s first attendance at the World Team Championship, and they have their aspirations set correctly for such an event, they wish to give a good account for themselves, but critically important as they are representing their country, “that we are sporting opponents”.
For those who have attended a World Team Championship before, they know that while the competition is fierce, the expectation of fair play is at the forefront. So it is great to see a new team coming in with that attitude.
Being one of the teams who have to travel the furthest, distance and cost does mean selecting a team is more about who can go, rather than running qualifiers. However it is exciting to see that the first years team have all been selected from the top 40 New Zealand players.
We wish Peter Dunn and his team all the luck for their first Worlds!
